Book Review: Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
The Afghan-American Author, Khaled Hosseini wrote
this masterpiece called ‘The Kite Runner. The book was published by Riverhead
in 2003. He stopped his physician career and switched to the writing industry
when his creative masterpiece hit in the bestselling. The sad stories that the
author tells in his books have attracted many people into sending money and
other humanitarian aid to Afghanistan and even some started adopting Afghan
kids.
The novel is about an extremely powerful story of
two young boys Amir and Hassan who grew up in Afghanistan. When the civil wars
stormed the country, Amir and his dad had the privilege to move to America
where they started their new life.
In their days In Afghanistan Amir never returned the
cordial and honest friendship to his friend Hassan. And since Karma is real,
his new life in America was not rewarding. He experienced all sorts of curses;
the loss of his father, the infertility and many other misfortunes.
On the other hand, Hassan remained in the hell of
Afghanistan where the wars were ravaging. He tasted the bitterness, the pain, and
the hardship of the Taliban. Later on in the drumbeat of confusion and fights, they
killed him, his father and wife.
The story depicts many things, from culture clashes
among Afghan immigrants to America, the discrimination among the Hazaras and Pashtun
and their religious sects of Suni and Shia. It is deeply sad how the wars
desperately buried the Afghanistan people into the harshness of poverty and the
state of wallowing. During the political
chaos in this country, the Ph.D. holders turned out into beggars, lame people
started selling their artificial legs to get the ends-meet.
There are many things that Somalia and Afghanistan are
in common, the Wars, the poverty, the religious sects, ethnic
discrimination and many other things. The creative writing skills of the author
is what makes the book moving, you will never put it down.
I got the chills so many times toward
the end of this book. It completely blew my mind. It managed to surpass my high
expectations and be nothing at all like I expected. Or in Newspeak "Double
Plus Good." The book contains wisdom, betrayal,
cruelty, and redemption, if you enjoy reading such themes; this is the right
one for you.
